We produce advanced biofuel from garbage through the design, development, ownership and operation of facilities that convert post-sorted municipal solid waste into ethanol. Our disruptive business model combines our proprietary process and fixed price, zero-cost MSW feedstock to provide us with a significant competitive advantage over companies using alternative feedstocks such as corn, sugarcane and other sources of biomass.
Our first facility, the Sierra BioFuels Plant near Reno, Nevada, is expected to begin producing fuel in 2013. Today we are currently evaluating additional locations in 19 states across the US for future and larger facilities. These potential sites will be located at or near the source of the MSW feedstock that we currently have secured under fixed price, zero-cost contracts that will give us the capacity to produce more than 700 million gallons of advanced biofuels per year.
The fuel we produce will qualify as an Advanced Biofuel under the Renewable Fuel Standards Program (RFS2), meaning our customers can meet the Federal requirements for blending of renewable fuels.
